Privacy Policy

Capture ("the App") is a lightweight food-photo capture utility built by BurnRate ("we", "us", or "our") to help you privately track eating habits. This Privacy Policy describes how the App handles your personal data.

1. Our Privacy Posture: Local-First

Capture is designed as a local-first application. Your food moments, photo captures, voice notes, and related context are stored privately on your device. We do not operate developer servers, and we never transmit your food logs, photos, or notes to ourselves or to any third party. Certain optional features rely on Apple's own system frameworks, which are described in Section 3.

2. Information We Process On-Device

The App processes the following types of information, all of which are stored locally in the App's secure sandbox on your iPhone:

• Food Photos — photos you capture using the App's camera interface or import from your Camera Roll.
• Voice Notes — audio recordings you make using your device's microphone.
• Transcripts — text transcriptions generated from your voice notes (see Section 3).
• Location & Place Labels — place names attached to a capture when you grant location permission (see Section 3).
• Manual Notes — any text notes you write to describe your food moments.

3. Apple System Framework Processing

The App uses native Apple frameworks to provide two optional features:

• Speech Transcription — when you choose to transcribe a voice note, the recording is processed using Apple's Speech Recognition framework (SFSpeechRecognizer). Depending on your device, language, and network conditions, Apple may process this audio on your device or on Apple's servers. In all cases the audio and resulting transcript are handled by Apple solely to perform the transcription you requested, and are never sent to or accessible by the developer (BurnRate). Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. If you prefer not to send audio off your device, simply don't transcribe — your voice note is still saved locally as audio.
• Location Geocoding — when you attach a place to a capture, the device's coordinates are reverse-geocoded into a place name using Apple's Core Location and CLGeocoder APIs. This lookup is performed through Apple's services. The resulting place name is stored locally; no coordinates or location history are sent to or accessible by the developer or any third-party partner.

4. Third-Party Analytics and Advertising

• No Analytics SDKs — the App does not contain third-party product analytics or usage counters.
• No Crash Reporters — we do not include third-party crash reporting SDKs.
• No Tracking or Advertising — the App does not track you across other websites or apps, and does not access the device's Advertising Identifier (IDFA). No ads are shown.

5. Standard Diagnostics

If you opt in to share crash logs and usage statistics with developers through Apple's standard TestFlight or App Store diagnostics settings, Apple may share anonymous technical reports with us. These technical logs contain no personal food photos, audio notes, transcripts, or location coordinates.

6. Data Control and Deletion

You have complete control over your local data. Deleting a capture entry from your in-app timeline immediately and permanently deletes the associated metadata, photo, audio recording, and transcript files from the App's local storage directory. Uninstalling the App removes all local data permanently.

7. Future Changes and Sync

If we introduce cloud backup, synchronization, or account integration in a future update, such features will be strictly opt-in. We will update this Privacy Policy prior to launching any feature that transmits data off your device.
